Viva blue "A" trips increase this fall
The number of Viva blue "A" trips will more than double this fall in response to the popularity of the new service.
Effective September 7, Viva blue "A" will operate 11 morning and 13 afternoon rush hour trips between Newmarket GO Bus Terminal. These new trips reflect a significant increase from the previous five trips each way and will help relieve overcrowding on vehicles.

YRT/Viva and Brampton Transit partnership speeds up service
The Regional Municipality of York and the City of Brampton have partnered to offer a new integrated rapid transit service for riders travelling between Brampton and York University.
In September, Brampton's new Züm rapid transit service will operate between downtown Brampton and York University along the Queen Street corridor in Brampton and Highway 7 in York Region. York Region's Viva orange service will continue to operate along Highway 7 between Martin Grove Road and York University.
Together, Viva orange and Brampton Züm will offer a combined service frequency of 7.5 minutes between Martin Grove Road and York University, seven days a week.
Note: From September 7 to 19, Züm service will be operated by conventional Brampton Transit vehicles with "Route 177" shown on the destination sign. Züm-branded vehicles will be in service beginning September 20.

New combined service brings changes for Route 77
Starting Tuesday, September 7, all Route 77 trips will be operated by YRT. Route 77 will be adjusted to end near Highway 50 and service frequencies will be modified.
For customers travelling to/from Brampton, the transfer point between YRT Route 77 and Brampton Transit Route 1 will be at the northwest corner of Highway 7 and Highway 50. Both YRT/Viva and Brampton Transit transfers will be accepted from this transfer point on either service.

New Route 22A service between Newmarket and York University
New Route 22A - King City limited non-rush hour service is being introduced in response to the cancellation of GO Transit’s Route 64 – Newmarket-York U. GO Bus service.
Route 22A will operate nine southbound and nine northbound weekday trips between Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and York University during periods where GO Train service is unavailable.

Bike 'n' Bus on YRT
Beginning June 2010, customers may use new bicycle racks on the front of YRT buses. Each rack holds up to two bikes and is designed for easy loading and unloading.The Bike 'n' Bus program lets you pay your regular fare but your bike rides for free.

YRT/Viva Coordinated Street Furniture Program update
The future is clear for York Region's street furniture. After a series of workshops in early 2010 involving local municipalities, Regional staff, munufacturers, media operators and the public, the design for YRT/Viva's Coordinated Street Furniture Program has been finalized and approved by York Regional Council.

PRESTO smart card coming 2011
YRT/Viva has partnered with the Government of Ontario and transit agencies across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and Ottawa to offer commuters a more convenient way to travel.
The PRESTO smart card is an electronic fare card that can be used with all partnering transit agencies. Used with PRESTO card readers in transit stations and vehicles, the system calculates the lowest fare for your trip and deducts the fare from the balance on your PRESTO card.
PRESTO is being rolled out in stages. YRT/Viva’s turn is scheduled for 2011.

A Smoke-Free YRT/VIVA
We would like to remind everyone that smoking is prohibited on all York Region Transit/Viva properties, including vehicles, shelters, bus stops, platforms, terminals and any other pedestrian areas. Smoking on the transit system or at a transit facility carries a fine of $150. Beginning in June, Transit Enforcement officers will be enforcing Section 3.21 of By-law R-1415-2005-028 throughout the YRT/Viva system to keep our services smoke-free.
