Public Wi-Fi Internet Access Terms and Conditions

You are encouraged to Use and re-use the Information that is available under this licence, freely and flexibly, with only a few conditions.
The York Region Public Wireless Internet Access Service ("Wi-Fi") is owned, operated and administered by The Regional Municipality of York (the "Region"). You will not be directed to the Region's Public Wi-Fi unless you have first read and agree to these Terms and Conditions by clicking on the "I AGREE" button at the end of this page. Your use of the Wi-Fi is subject to federal, provincial and municipal laws regulating Internet use, including but not limited to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada regarding: obscenity, child pornography, criminal harassment, cyberbullying, intimidation, uttering threats, identity fraud, defamatory libel and the incitement of hate. The use of the Region's Public Wi-Fi for illegal purposes by You is strictly prohibited, and may result in the termination of your use of the Wi-Fi by the Region, expulsion from the Regional facility and civil and/or criminal proceedings being commenced against You. Regulatory penalties, fines and/or civil liability may also result from Your use of the Wi-Fi. You agree to abide by all applicable federal, provincial and provincial laws pertaining to privacy rights, intellectual property (including copyright), and defamation while using the Wi-Fi. You also agree not to send unsolicited commercial e-mails using the Wi-Fi as set out in detail in Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, as may be amended from time to time. http://fightspam.gc.ca/eic/site/030.nsf/eng/home.
The Region reserves the right to revoke any Wi-Fi privileges extended to You at any time, without prior notice, in the event that You breach any of these Terms and Conditions. Your use of the Wi-Fi shall be discontinued immediately upon any such revocation by the Region. You acknowledge and agree that:
- You may not, at any time, use the Region's Wi-Fi for any illegal purposes, including but not limited to downloading, viewing or transmitting any online content that contravenes the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada.
- The Internet is not a secured medium. The Wi-Fi's access points are unsecured connections to the Internet.
- The Wi-Fi is not error free, uninterrupted, and may not necessarily meet Your requirements.
- The Region is not responsible for data transmitted by or on behalf of You over the Wi-Fi or for the loss or corruption of data transmitted over the Wi-Fi. The Region is not responsible or liable for any lost or corrupted data.
- Third parties may be able to obtain information about Your activities when using the Region's Wi-Fi. The Region is not responsible or liable for data interception by a third party.
- The Region is not responsible or liable for the security and privacy of Your on-line transactions. The Wi-Fi is provided strictly "as is" and Your use of the Wi-Fi is entirely at Your own risk.
- You are solely responsible for the protection of Your device(s) from viruses, spyware and spam.
- The Region is not responsible or liable for third party content and has no obligation to monitor any third party content.
- Damage, modification or misuse of the Wi-Fi is strictly prohibited.
- Interfering with the designated use of computers or the network, and subverting or modifying any security device or software installed by the Region on the Wi-Fi is strictly prohibited.
- The Region is not responsible or liable for the safety of Your device(s), or for Your device(s) configurations.
- The Region's staff is not able to provide technical assistance to You.
- Printing is not available from the Region's Wi-Fi.
The Region's Wi-Fi will support devices that use the 802.11a/b/g/n/ac protocols, which are the main standards used for wireless access on mobile devices.
The Regional Municipality of York – Public Internet Use Policy
The Region does not manage the content of the information accessed through the Internet and assumes responsibility only for the information provided on its own home pages. The Region is not responsible for the site content of links or secondary links from its home pages. The Regional Municipality of York assumes no responsibility for any direct or indirect claims, damages or costs, howsoever caused, sought by You or third parties arising from its provision of access to Internet services. Children under 18 years of age are entitled to access all public information and public facilities in the Region. As with other Region materials, children's access to the Internet and the Region's Public Wi-Fi is solely the responsibility of their parents and/or legal guardians. All users under the age of 18 must be supervised by their parents and legal guardians, who must accept and agree to the Terms and Conditions on behalf of the minor user before the minor user will be permitted to access the Wi-Fi. To ensure equitable access to the Internet and efficient use of resources, the Region has developed these Terms and Conditions. The Region reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions when and where appropriate at any time. Unauthorized copying or distribution of material found on the Internet may infringe on copyright or other intellectual property rights. The Region is not responsible for any such infringements by You.
