An easier way to pay your fare!
PRESTO E-Tickets allows travellers to purchase YRT e-tickets anywhere, anytime, through the convenience of their smartphones. The app is available for free in the App Store or Google Play.
E-tickets are a great option for occasional or group travellers with many benefits, including:
- Paying the e-ticket discount price versus paying cash fare, for more information visit our Fares page
- The option to purchase and activate tickets for a group all at once making payment and boarding the bus quick and convenient for riders
- Ability to purchase tickets for other select transit agencies in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) including York Region Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway and Oakville Transit
Purchase and use YRT e-tickets in four easy steps:
- Download PRESTO E-Tickets on your mobile device through the App Store or Google Play
- Create an account or log in with your YRT Pay app credentials to access your account
- Purchase a ticket for the fare type that is appropriate for you. You may be asked for proof of age.
- Activate your ticket before boarding the bus and show it to the bus driver or YRT enforcement officer. Please note that fare activation takes one full minute and must be completed before boarding the bus. What fare types are available for purchase on the app? |
You can purchase single ride tickets on the app. Prices are available for all fare categories (Adult, Youth, Senior and Child). You may be asked for proof of age. |
Is there a discount on e-tickets purchased through PRESTO E-Tickets? |
Yes, e-tickets purchased through PRESTO E-Tickets will be discounted from cash fare rates. For more information, please visit our Fares page. |
Can I use my e-ticket to transfer to other routes in York Region, including TTC and Brampton Transit routes that operate in York Region? |
Yes, e-tickets will be accepted on YRT, TTC and Brampton Transit routes that operate in York Region. Please note that e-tickets purchased through PRESTO E-Tickets are not included in the One Fare Program. To receive a free transfer between YRT, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, GO Transit, MiWay and TTC (in Toronto) and YRT, you must use a PRESTO card, PRESTO mobile wallet, credit or debit card payment on a PRESTO device. |
Can I transfer to GO Transit for free with my e-ticket? |
To take advantage of the Ride to GO program, you must use a PRESTO card, PRESTO mobile wallet. Visit our Ride to GO page for more details. |
Can I use e-tickets for the One Fare Program? |
No, e-tickets purchased through PRESTO E-Tickets are not included in the One Fare Program. To receive a free transfer between YRT, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, GO Transit, MiWay and TTC you must use a PRESTO card, PRESTO mobile wallet, credit or debit card payment on a PRESTO device. |
Is PRESTO E-Tickets the same as a PRESTO Card or the PRESTO app? |
No. PRESTO E-Tickets is separate from a PRESTO card and the PRESTO App. Your account on the PRESTO E-Tickets App is different from a regular PRESTO card account. A PRESTO E-Tickets account is only for buying, managing and using your PRESTO E-Tickets. |
Can I get a refund on tickets? |
YRT does not provide refunds on tickets. |
Fare Activation
When should I activate my fare? |
Fare activation takes one full minute and must be completed before boarding the bus (e.g. while waiting at the bus stop). |
Why is the bus operator asking me to tap the ticket screen? |
You must tap your ticket screen to verify that the fare is not fraudulent. When you tap the screen, the ticket will change colour and show an expiration countdown timer. The driver may also ask you to scan the QR code. |
What do I do if I am approached by Transit Enforcement? |
Show the Enforcement Officer your activated mobile ticket and tap the screen to show that the fare is valid. The Officer may also ask to scan the ticket's QR code for inspection. |
I am travelling with a group of people. Can I buy and activate more than one ticket? |
Yes, you can buy and activate a maximum of 20 e-tickets at a time. Please note that drivers will not provide paper transfers, so group travel must be completed together (i.e. from start to finish). |
How long can I hold onto purchased tickets without activation? |
There is no expiration date on non-activated tickets. They will remain in your account until you activate them. |
Why is there a one-minute countdown during ticket activation? |
To support the YRT fare policy of having valid fare before boarding. |

Is an internet connection required to use the app? |
You need an internet connection to set up your account, purchase fares and use tickets saved in the cloud. If you save your tickets to the device, you do not need internet connection to use them. |
What's the difference between saving my tickets to the device versus the cloud? |
If you save your fares to the device, they will only be accessible on that single device and can be used without an internet connection. If you save your fares to the cloud, you can access them from any device that has the app installed, but it requires an internet connection. |
What do I do if I change my device? |
Save your tickets onto the cloud. You will then be able to access them on your new device by logging into your account. |
YRT Pay Transition to PRESTO E-Tickets
What will I have to do when it’s time to switch from YRT Pay to PRESTO E-Tickets? |
You will need to download PRESTO E-Tickets, which is available in the App Store and on Google Play, and then log in to the app using the same username and password that you use for YRT Pay to access your account. |
What will happen to my unused tickets when YRT Pay is discontinued? |
Any unused tickets that you have in the YRT Pay or Transit apps will be automatically switched over to PRESTO E-Tickets on November 26. You will be able to access them in PRESTO E-tickets on November 27 when you log in to PRESTO E-Tickets using your YRT Pay username and password. Please note dates may change. |
I had some unused e-tickets in YRT Pay, can I still use them with PRESTO E-Tickets? |
Any unused tickets that you have in the YRT Pay or Transit apps will be automatically switched over to PRESTO E-Tickets on November 26. You will be able to access them in PRESTO E-tickets on November 27 when you log in to PRESTO E-Tickets using your YRT Pay username and password. |
